Garden dedication signals start of more Arboretum development

The dedication of the HO Smith Botanic Gardens in The Arboretum at Penn State was held during the Universitys 2010 Blue-White football scrimmage weekend. While the crowd of more than 600 came together to witness the official opening, Arboretum officials were already planning for the next phases. A boardwalk with an overlook to the James J. and Lynn D. Ramage Marsh Meadow is planned for the summer of 2010, a gift of Penn States Class of 2010. Next steps include a landscape-scale sundial made of several blocks of granite, to be installed later in the summer, and final designs have been approved for a future Childrens Garden, now in the fundraising stage.
